GOV. EL-RUFAI EXPOSING THE FAILURE OF PAST LEADERS
–By Yahaya Alkali
“A politician in government has a choice between doing what is right and doing what is popular”.
I enjoy going through the social media platforms of Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, I most commend the resilience, professionalism and expertise displayed by the Governors media handlers. Government engagements, meetings, events and important state information are steadily updated there; distance is no longer a barrier to getting genuine information on the state of things in Kaduna state.
Kaduna state have had a fair share of the good, the bad and the ugly side of leadership, we have had leaders that placed more premium on managing the fragile peace of the state, leaders who created and paved access roads in communities and linked all 23 local government areas to major roads, established the prestigious Kaduna State University and a whole lots of projects to his credits.
We had at some point a governor who had a long list of “11 Point Agenda”, who served briefly and got elevated to the number two man in the country with little achievement tied to his name during his brief stay as governor of Kaduna state.
Then we had a governor from the Southern Kaduna zone, he came with so much administrative prowess, he hit the ground running by completing and initiating new developmental projects initiated by his predecessor, promising and haven shown the capacity to deliver the cold hand of dead snatched him off, posterity will remember him for the contribution he made to Kaduna state when he served as governor.
Then we had the young man from Zaria, whose first mistake was to step in with the idea of political vendetta and jettisoned all laudable programmes and project of the late governor, and he lost his mandate in 2015 which paved way for Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai the incumbent governor who is consolidating and has outstandingly surpassed the achievements of his predecessor.
There are a number of things other Nigerian politicians and Governors in particular can learn from the governor of Kaduna State, I must say that this piece is not being written solely on hearsay, rather base on facts and realities on ground. Just yesterday, the 16th of September 2019, Gov. El-Rufai visited as on a site visit to African Natural Resources & Mines, where a whopping $600 Million Dollar integrated iron ore mining processing & steel production company situated at Gujeni, Kagarko LGA, there is the Moroccan fertilizer blending plant which is under construction, the Dangote/Peugeot Car Assembling plant which will also be established, not forgetting numerous industries that are today thriving and impacting to the economic wellbeing of the state.
While other governors are comfortable with the teeming number of unemployed youth in their state, Governor El-Rufai is consistently looking for ways to win investors into Kaduna State, the Kaduna Urban Renewal Project initiated by Gov.El-Rufai will deliver 30 new/expanded roads within the state and many uncompleted projects are given priority too. Is this not a Nigeria wonder?
I hope other state governors will learn from the sterling performance of Gov. Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai and deliver good governance in their state as well.
